PINK SATURDAY – FILM NOIR

Welcome to the movies!

DoubleIndemnityPOster I love the old movies - most had a glamour and elegance you just don't see today.

Especially the old gangster movies: the Film Noir genre.

The men were Tough Guys, the women were Women with Attitude, and the plots (and one-liners) were lethal!

This week's Pink Saturday post is inspired by this YouTube film by RubyTuesday717 - I just had to share!

Watch with the sound ON for maximum effect - the soundtrack (Massive Attack) is wonderful.

I wonder how many stars you recognised? Here are just some I recognised immediately (that shows my age, lol):
Fred MacMurray : Richard Widmark : Burt Lancaster : Edward G Robinson : Robert Mitchum : Humphrey Bogart : Peter Lorre : James Cagney : Orson Welles : Sterling Heyden : Barbara Stanwyck : Bette Davis : Jean Simmons : Carole Lombard : Ingrid Bergman
This week's Blog of The Week is Stephanie at Queen of Dreamz - who has an enormous blog with loads of wonderful links. She hired me to help with the coding, and has completely restructured her blog from the ground up. There's a lot of work behind the scenes you probably won't even notice: extra widget boxes sized to the sidebars, vertical divider which goes right to the bottom of the sidebar/posting area etc - we worked together over several sessions for the better part of three days !

What you will see is the result - bigger, brighter, clearer, cleaner - easier to navigate and with wonderful BIG pictures. I hope you'll go and visit, and praise her for all her hard work.

Finally, don’t forget to visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound to see all the other wonderful Pink Saturday posts!

  1. Happy Pink and Happy Mother's Day. Like those old movies, the clothes were fabulous. The movies so dramatic you had to watch to see what would happen next.

You betcha I recognized the faces. Some of the names were slipping, like Widmark, couldn't remember his name til you listed it. There were some film noir movies. Piecing all the "violent" scenes together makes it pretty intense. But those looks, balks, walks, talks, twists and turns of people and plots. Those were the days, huh? Love the shorts, skirts, dresses and hats. And, a lot of favorite actors/actresses long gone. That was intense. Okay, back to Pink Saturday! Happy Pink Saturday! Thanks for stopping by - enjoy the flowers til y'all have some! Jenn

  12. Oh my goodness, I love old movies!! I am a TCM addict. I love the way they were able to make such riveting movies without all the smut of today...no cussing or nudity. I just watched The Fountainhead yesterday, it was so good!!!

    Happy Pink Saturday:)

    Hi Susie,

Happy PiNk and Happy Mother's Day to you!

I think almost as much as I liked the unique acting styles and roles they played I LOVE the clothing during so many of the eras. Pure inspiration...and of course, I'm a nut for the vintage hats. I always loved to watch Betty Davis movies.

Thanks so much for giving me a feature this week....I so appreciate that..I'm just sorry I didn't much done other than my PS post...then I was gone most of today so I'm just getting started on visiting...I've come to observe PS as an "all the time" event because there's so many I like to visit. ♥

I'll be brainstorming what and where I want to do with my new widgets. :0)

    Have a great weekend,
    Stephanie ♥

  14. Hi Susie! Great post! Yes, I LOVE the old movies! I can't say I recognized EVERYBODY, but quite a few! I couldn't find Carol Lombard though!.. I loved Nora Desmond towards the end! I would never have known who she was though, if it wasn't for Carol Burnett's impersonations! Did I see Vivienne Leigh in there too?.. Loved the music! FUN post!! Hope you're enjoying your weekend, and Happy Mother's Day! ((hugs)) ~tina

  15. Her blog looks great! I've been thinking about making my blog wider too, but worry people won't know how to adjust their screens to make it fit.
I love old black and white movies too, there is something so glamorous about them. Happy Pink Susie, have a beautiful Sunday!

Hi Susie, I love old movies, even though, I don't see them often enough. I am going to show this post to my sweet mom, I know she would really love seeing this. Thank you for sharing.
I'd also like to thank you for visiting and leaving your kind comment on my "Pink Saturday" memory/photo jar. I had so much fun glittering my shells and starfish pink!
