VERSOIX ICE STORM - PIX

On the news tonight - The Perfect Storm in Scotland - an ice storm!

I don't have photos of it (no doubt there will be some in the newspapers tomorrow) so here are some incredible pix of an ice storm in Versoix, Switzerland, around 2 years ago.

I have NO IDEA whose copyright these photos are - so if they are yours, please tell me so I can add attribution and copyright information.

These wouldn't be out of place in a science fiction film! Spooky but incredibly beautiful. In fact, it's rather like the film The Day After Tomorrow. Except these are real!

At the moment, Scotland is looking very like this - yet here in London, although very cold, there's not even a speck of ice (at the moment....)

  1. That's one serious ice storm. I thought we had it bad here in the Chicago area... but, that is a wicked one.... hang in there.

That is AMAZING......it looks like decorator icing on a cake! Beautiful but oh so deadly. I cannot imagine waking to see that.
Or trying to get the car going. ;D

  3. Wow! Amazing pictures. Some hoar frost in Notts today, which made the trees look pretty, but I've never seen anything as spectacular as these.

  5. Oh wow these pics are GORGEOUS, they remind me of the crystal stalactites and stalagmites in the caverns near us.
It's an unusually cold winter in Alabama as well.
Stay warm and cozy Susie, we sure don't want you and your hubby down with the flu again.
This background is just beautiful! You're so very talented!

  7. Our last serious ice storm (in Tennessee) was in February 1994. We woke up to no electricity, no phone a huge tree in our backyard that stood about 8 feet from the house broke and fell over. Luckily, the fall was parallel, as it was the entire length of our home. Ice coated all the trees, bushes and power lines. We could not walk from the door of our home to anything outside for 2 - 3 days as the ground was a thick solid sheet of ice, much like a pond frozen over. We got our power back on about 2 weeks later but many people waited even longer. It was quite a memorable mess. We've had ice since, but nothing to match that one. I feel for those in Scotland.

  10. Oh my gosh, These photos are just unreal. The "iced" trees look like they came out of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. I love how they look. But those poor cars will never be the same! LOL

I enjoyed looking at all of these and have never seen them anywhere before. Really though I can't imagine looking out my windows to an ice storm like this..I'd freak out..LOL

    Hugs,
    Stephanie

  12. Thanks so much for your comment. I think the concensus might be that Jean-Paul Scherrer is the photographer, although there seems to be a couple of views about it (having Googled again) as these were from the Powerpoint presentation he mentions (and says they aren't his):

So they may be by Jean-Paul Scherrer... but again, they may not!
