The background is a wash of pink, red and yellow acrylics over vintage book pages, and I've stamped over the top with a foam stamp. The word RAIN is in white pen, with 'snow' Stickles glue added on top. Far right, I've added ric rac braid on the page edge. |
This time, I thought I'd share this 'Rain' spead - nice & bright and a bit of fun... I've used just the one stamp - first with red acrylic as a background, and then over that with gesso. Once the gesso was dry, I overpainted wiht watercolours, then added a little glitter.
 |
Closeup showing the glitter, and the multi layering of the pinks and reds of the stamped image built up as a background. |
I hand-lettered with white poster paint pen (Posca) then added a drop shadow in black. I added dots of turquoise Lumiere acrylic paint, dotting it on from a fine-tip plastic bottle then more dots of white acrylic (also decanted into a fine-tip plastic bottle).
 |
And a closeup from a different angle, showing the background stamped in pinks and reds over a pink and yellow background wash. |
And another view. I do love being able to read the background text - I think it adds a whole other dimension. Interestingly, it also strengthens a fragile and porous vintage book page (this is one of my handmade journals using a mix of watercolour, vintage text, sheet music and other papers).
Enjoy!
We were finally blessed this week with a little rain. You are doing a nice job on your book. I like the colors.
ReplyDeleteI just left a comment and it flew out to cyber space, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, here it is again.
I love your journal...the colors are great..
and.....
your snaps sound better than the ginger snaps. :))
Ooooh....I love that rain spread!! It's so great that you shared the details with us of how you achieved that look! Beautiful work! HPS!!! Dana
ReplyDeleteBeen through some very dry parts of the country last few weeks. They need some rain. Blessings, Debbie
ReplyDeleteHi Susie,
ReplyDeleteI like it! Very pretty...
I know...don't take a double look.
It's me. I'm finally back in blogland.
My momma had to go into a nursing home.
Very hard finding a nice place but
finally we did. It's been very depressing
for me...how does a child (me) prepare for
such a day....we don't. It's just so
overwhelming.
I started doodling to calm my nerves and
I'm really hooked now. :0)
Pop in for a visit when you have a moment.
Hugs,
Steph ♥
GREAT Photos, Susie!

Nice composition, original design, excellent! I like!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Susie, Thank you so much for your sweet comments about my cousin. I appreciate your kindness and sympathy so much.
ReplyDeleteYour journal spread is awesome. The words are so true and I love the background too. I was in a circle journal group and we worked on traveling journals for a whole year. When mine was returned I was so thrilled with everyone's contribution. I treasure it so much. There was 10 of us and these blog friends have become so dear to me. My theme was HA! I so believe that being able to laugh is essential to our well being.
Happy Pink Sat. in the UK.
Hugs, Jeanne
